WHAT WE DO
WhyNot is a platform for contemporary dance and performance that creates space for artistic experimentation, collaboration, and exchange.
Working with the body and movement as our starting point, WhyNot connects dance and performance with music, visual art, architecture, science, design, and other creative fields. By bringing together different artistic practices, perspectives, and communities, we encourage dialogue, challenge conventions, and support the development of new forms of artistic expression.
FESTIVALS & EVENTS
In addition to the WhyNot Festival, which takes place every two years, the platform organizes a wide range of activities throughout the year and develops interdisciplinary productions. By building connections between dance, performance, and other creative disciplines, WhyNot seeks to invigorate the dance field from within and create space for new artistic forms and exchanges.
PRODUCTIONS
WhyNot produces interdisciplinary works and experiments with new formats. WhyNot connects dance and performance art to other creative worlds and disciplines, with the aim that different disciplines meet and letting new forms emerge.
ASSOCIATED ARTISTS
Every two years, WhyNot selects a promising choreographer, artist, and/or performer to support and mentor over a two-year period. For the current cycle, we have selected choreographer and dancer Elisa Zuppini (IT/NL).
WhyNot currently supports choreographer and dancer Elisa Zuppini (IT/NL) based in Amsterdam. Her practice explores the intersection of movement, systems thinking, and contemporary philosophy. She approaches choreography as a form of relational and affective architecture, where spatial and temporal elements interact dynamically, generating meaning. Since 2016 she has developed De.sy.re. a pioneering movement system that forms the bases of her artistic language.
Her work has been presented at a wide range of international festivals and institutions, including the Holland Festival, Frascati Theatre, Dansehallerne (DK), BASE Milano (FAROUT Festival), Theater Rotterdam (Feeling Curious? Festival), Julidans Festival, FLAM Festival, GAMeC Modern and Contemporary Art Museum Bergamo, among others. She has been awarded residencies such as CAMPUS (PT), Veem House for Performance (NL), and Lavanderia a Vapore (IT).
PUBLICATIONS
WhyNot aims to provide context for the art it presents by inviting scientists and other experts to contribute reflections and in-depth insights on art research and interdisciplinary productions.
