WhyNot is a platform for contemporary dance and performance that fosters innovation and creates an open, accessible environment in which diverse audiences can discover and experience these art forms.
By taking dance and performance out of their traditional theatre settings and presenting them in carefully selected locations, WhyNot offers new perspectives on the work and its relationship with audiences. In addition to the WhyNot Festival - which takes place every two years - the platform organizes a variety of activities throughout the year and develops interdisciplinary productions. By building connections between dance, performance, and other creative disciplines, WhyNot seeks to invigorate the dance field from within and create space for new artistic forms and exchanges.

INFORMATION
Festival WhyNot is an initiative of Stichting de Vreemde Beweging, a Dutch foundation established in 2010 to produce and present contemporary dance, theatre, and interdisciplinary arts projects. Through performances, festivals, and artistic collaborations, the foundation aims to foster the development of contemporary dance and visual arts.
WhyNot adheres to both the spirit and the principles of the Dutch Governance Code for Culture. In accordance with the foundation’s statutes (amended in February 2017), board members may serve a maximum of two consecutive four-year terms. The board is responsible for approving the annual budget and financial statements, meets at least three times a year, and exercises collective decision-making authority.
The Dutch Code Diversity & Inclusion seeks to ensure that culture is accessible to everyone. This commitment is deeply embedded in WhyNot’s mission and organisational objectives. The foundation actively promotes diversity, equity, and inclusion in ways that align with its artistic vision, programming, and organisational practice.
