Festival WhyNot #2
2011
7 & 8 January 2011
@W139
Contemporary dance in an artspace. Dance improvisations colored with live music. Photography inspired by movement. Short films and animations with dance as the main character.
The 7th and the 8th of January at artspace W139 in the heart of Amsterdam. WhyNot!
This is 'Why not!', a contemporary dance festival, in which dance will approach you in many different ways. WhyNot! wants to lower the bar for contemporary dance and give young,
new dance makers a chance to present their work in front of a wide audience. They have a simple concept. Dance, wrapped up in a festival with other forms of art, such as film, photography and music.
The theater is traded in for artspace W139, where you can enjoy two evenings filled with the newest choreographies, dance improvisations, live music and much more.
Dance meets music meets film meets photography meets dance meets you meet me. Why not!
The band Signe Tollefsen will create the ultimate 'cross over' show together with dancer Eva Baumann. The programme includes short films from Cinedans, animation, dance improvisation, live musicians, a lot of dancers and DJ.
Performer Tony Orrico will have the world premiere of his piece Penwald:5 at WhyNot! For the Penwald series, Orrico is currently working within a series of bilateral contour drawings, which he translated into
simple but powerful movements. His work has recently been collected by the national academy of sciences in Washington DC and part of the series was shown at STRP festival in Eindhoven. Also the young dance
maker Lies Cuyvers will present a new choreography at WhyNot! festival. Her productions are combinations of very physical, contemporary dance with theatrical scenes.
